The stories ran from 1981 – 1995 and featured a bevy of wonderful reoccurring authors. Similarly they featured covers with pretty teens posing like fashion models in colorful clothes, most often alone but on a few rare covers paired up with a boy or another girl to add some visual interest. They were the Grand-daddy of all teen romance, more popular than First Love From Silhouette, certainly longer lasting but the fad of thematic romances didn’t stem from them – they were following the likes of Wishing Star and Wildfire. While boys collected bubble gum cards girls collected and traded Sweet Dreams novels – they were everywhere! You could spin any wire book-rack in any library, you could go into any shop, browse any girlie white hutch over a desk and find at least two or three selections to add to your cache. ****Check out the Ultimate series pages by clicking onto highlighted series title!*** It’s a work in progress so not every series is ready yet, Hope you enjoy!*** WILDFIRE And WISHING STAR Ultimate pages click the Links!

When Meddelin Chan ends up accidentally killing her blind date, her meddlesome mother calls for her even more meddlesome aunties to help get rid of the body. So I want to warn you now! From Goodreads:Ī hilariously quirky novel that is equal parts murder mystery, rom-com, and a celebration of mothers and daughters as well as a deep dive into Chinese-Indonesian culture, by debut author Jesse Q. I just didn’t love THIS story, you know? I wanted to, absolutely, but the more I thought about it… The things I didn’t like about the plot simply eclipsed what I did.Īnyway, before I dive into the problems I had with ‘Dial A for Aunties’, I should let you know that most of these items could be considered spoilers. I’d honestly probably read something else by Ms. On the contrary, it was a fun read and I truly believe the author has an amazing way with words. This post is all just my own opinion and has nothing to do with how well the book was written. First, let me start by saying that I didn’t hate Dial A for Aunties. In This Will Be My Undoing, Jerkins becomes both narrator and subject to expose the social, cultural, and historical story of black female oppression that influences the black community as well as the white, male-dominated world at large. In This Will Be My Undoing, she takes on perhaps one of the most provocative contemporary topics: What does it mean to "be"-to live as, to exist as-a black woman today? This is a book about black women, but it's necessary reading for all Americans.Doubly disenfranchised by race and gender, often deprived of a place within the mostly white mainstream feminist movement, black women are objectified, silenced, and marginalized with devastating consequences, in ways both obvious and subtle, that are rarely acknowledged in our country's larger discussion about inequality. Morgan Jerkins is only in her twenties, but she has already established herself as an insightful, brutally honest writer who isn't afraid of tackling tough, controversial subjects. From one of the fiercest critics writing today, Morgan Jerkins' highly-anticipated collection of linked essays interweaves her incisive commentary on pop culture, feminism, black history, misogyny, and racism with her own experiences to confront the very real challenges of being a black woman today-perfect for fans of Roxane Gay's Bad Feminist, Rebecca Solnit's Men Explain Things to Me, and Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie's We Should All Be Feminists. This volume also introduces Amanda to Lieutenant Jazz Brown, her love interest, but Burney keeps the primary focus on the murder mystery. It introduces Amanda Brown Bell, a nearly-forty forensic psychologist and amateur detective who finds herself solving mysteries instead of sitting home and watching her favorite crime show on television. Murder, Mayhem, and a Fine Man is the debut book in the series. The popularity of the blog led Burney to her first publishing contract, and the start of her "Amanda Brown Bell" series of mystery novels. SIDELIGHTS:Ĭlaudia Mair Burney first garnered notice with her blog Ragamuffin Diva, where she writes about life, faith, books, and anything else that comes to mind. Contributor to periodicals, including Discipleship Journal and the Handmaiden. Contributor to Justice in the Burbs: Being the Hands of Jesus Wherever You Live, by Will and Lisa Samson, Baker Books ( Grand Rapids, MI), 2007. Cook (Colorado Springs, CO), 2008.Īlso author of the blog Ragamuffin Diva. Zora and Nicky: A Novel in Black and White (romance novel), David C. Mair rhymes with "fire" born 1964 married children: seven. Speaking directly to our childhood fantasies, this exhilarating work takes us to that faraway place in our minds where dreams prevail, and where we too can be masters of our own domain. When this paradise is invaded by white men, Tarzan’s life changes, for in this group is Jane, the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. When the expedition is captured by savages, Tarzan comes to the rescue. A couple of brief encounters with Tarzan establish a (sexual) bond between her and Tarzan. As Tarzan grows up, he makes many friends, including Tantor the elephant and Numa the lion. Jane Parker visits her father in Africa where she joins him on an expedition. This is the story of the ape-man Tarzan, raised in the wild by the great ape Kala, and how he learns the secrets of the jungle to survive-how to talk with the animals, swing through the trees, and fight the great predators. Set amid the vibrant colors and sounds of the African jungle, this classic work, rich in suspense and action, has beckoned generations of readers on a glorious journey to romance and pure adventure.
